Capital Credit

Each year, cooperative members are assigned credits based on how much electric they use.  The more electricity you use and pay for, the more capital credits you accumulate.

Since Harrison Rural Electrification Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization, these credits or margins, are re-invested in the cooperative to keep it running.

In the spring, you will receive a statement that doesn't look familiar.  It is not a bill.  It is a capital credit statement that shows what allocations have been made to your account for the previous year.

Budget Billing
If your electric usage varies a good deal from month to month or season to season, you may qualify for levelized billing.  This program allows you to pay approximately the same amount each month on your electric bill based on your previous annual electricity consumption.
AMR / Turtle Meters

HREA has installed an automatic meter reading device in essentially all residential and some commercial meters.  With this system, a device called a turtle is installed in the meter which reads each revolution of the disk on the meter.  The turtle “counts” these revolutions and correspond to the digital reading on the meter.  The system then send this reading to a receiver at the meters normal substation/metering point every 27 hours.  The billing clerk can then download these on a daily basis and determine how much electric has been consumed at that location.

For some commercial meters, we still have a serviceman who visits the sight and obtains monthly readings.  On a few residential meters, the member is still required to perform self-reads.  These meters cannot be upgraded due to how the residence was wired.  These members can simply use our online meter reading submit form!

If you have any questions give us a call, we will be glad to help.
